When you add a domain name as hosted in some account, you normally set a pair of Name Servers to point it to that particular service provider. On their end, 3 records are set up automatically the moment the Internet domain is added - one A record and two MX records. The first one is a numeric address, or IP address, which “tells” the Internet domain where its site is, while the other two are alphanumeric and they reveal the server that manages the e-mails for that particular domain. The website and the email hosting are generally thought to be one thing, when they're in fact two different services. Having different records for them will allow you to have them with different providers if you want. As an example, some new company could have fantastic uptime for your site, but you may not want to switch your emails from your current host and by using an A record to point the domain name to the former and MX records to have the e-mails with the latter, you will get the best of both providers. These records are checked when you wish to open a website or send an email - in any case, the service provider whose name servers are used for the domain will be contacted to retrieve the A and MX records and if you've set records different from their own, the right web/mail server will then be contacted and you are going to see the needed site or your email will be delivered.

Custom MX and A Records in Shared Website Hosting

If you have a shared website hosting account through our company and you wish to point either your site or your e-mails to a different provider, it will take you literally just 2 mouse clicks to do this. Our Hepsia Control Panel provides an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domain names and subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically and you will be able to see and modify the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you want to use a different email provider and they ask you to create more MX records than the default 2, it's not going to take more than a couple of clicks either to add them. You may also set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the bigger the priority a certain MX record is going to have. The propagation of any record that you modify or create is not going to take more than a few hours and if necessary, you will also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, which reveals how long a record will stay active after it's changed or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

With the semi-dedicated plans which we offer, you're going to have full control over the records of all domain addresses and subdomains you add in your hosting account. You can easily check what A and MX records each one of them has from the DNS Records section of the Hepsia hosting CP and modifying any record requires only a couple of mouse clicks. If you decide to change your web or email hosting provider, you can edit the necessary record and direct your domain name to the other service provider for one of the services, as you still continue using the other one through us. You can also keep the main domain here, while you modify the A record of only one of its subdomains. If you're editing the MX records and you need additional ones on top of the standard 2 that we have, you can create them with ease and set a different priority for each and every one.
